Debbie Reynolds started her career at Warner Brothers when she was 16 years old in 1948. After two years, she transferred to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM) and had a small but significant role in the film Three Little Words (1950). This was immediately followed by Two Weeks with Love where she sang “Aba Daba Honeymoon” that became a hit. On her first starring role in Singin’ in the Rain (1952), her career started to shine.
In 1957, she was featured in the film Tammy and the Bachelor opposite Leslie Nielsen. The song, “Tammy,” which she rendered in the movie reached Number 1 in the Billboard pop chart for five consecutive weeks. This was the best-sellinhg single of a female singer in 1957.

1900 – The Liceo de Manila, the first institute of higher learning in Manila with a completely Filipino faculty, opened.
1944 – The United States Congress passed Joint Resolution No. 83 and 93. The former gave the U.S. the right to retain military (naval and air) bases in the Philippines while the latter authorized the U.S. president to proclaimed the independence of the Philippines on July 4, 1945.
2011 – The Philippine National Railways reopened the “Bicol Express” rail service from the Tutuban station to naga City.

Ang Tagalog Illustrated Stories ay ang dating Tagalog Klasiks. Nagbagong mukha ito sa mga unang taon ng ika-21 siglo. Sa unti-unting pagkawala ng babasahing pangmasa na “komiks,” tanging iilan sa mga inilalathala ng Atlas Publications ang nalabi sa sirkulasyon. Sa di mawaring dahilan, ang katawagang “komiks” o “klasiks” ay pinalitan ng “illustrated stories.” Ang Espesyal Komiks ay naging Espesyal Illustrated Stories, ang Hiwaga Komiks ay naging Hiwaga Illustrated Stories, atbp. Tumagal lamang ang mga ito hanggang taong 2006. Sa huling dalawang taon, hindi na nilalagyan ng petsa ang mga inililimbag na “komiks” na taliwas sa nakaugalian. Dito lalong nawalan ng halaga ang mga komiks. Ito ay dahil sa panuntunang (ng mga collectors) na ang nakatatak na petsa, maliban sa nilalaman, ang nagbibigay halaga sa mga babasahing ito sa paglipas ng panahon. Ang Pilipino Komiks naman na naging Pilipino Illustrated Stories, nang lumaon, ay nagkaroon na lamang ng mga “specialized issues” na naglalaman ng mga “illustrated” information tungkol sa mga napapanahong mga bagay o pangyayari.

1987 – Philippine Airlines Flight 206 crashed onto the fog-covered slopes of Mount Ugu, a 2,086-meter high mountain between Itogon, Benguet and Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, killing all its crew and passengers.

When Trygvie Lie (1896-1968) resigned as the first officially recognized Secretary-General of the United nations on November10, 1952, the U.N. Security Council recommended Dag Hjalmar Agne Carl Hammarskjold (1905-1961) as his successor. Hammarskjold officially became second U.N. Secretary-General on April 10, 1953. In 1955, he visited the People’s Republic of China at successfully negotiated for the release of 15 American pilots who were captured at the heights of the Korean War. He was reelected in 1957 but was unable to finish his second term. He died when the plane he was on crashed in Northern Rhodesia (Zambia today) on September 18, 1961.

          Lucy Lawless (birth name Lucille Frances Ryan) is a New Zealand actress best known for his role as Xena, the warrior princess. Prior to this, she first appeared on the pilot episode of Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, “Hercules and the Amazon Woman” (1994), as the man-hating Amazon name Lysia. She also played another character, Lyla, on the first season episode “As Darkness Falls.” Lawless got her best known role when she was asked to play a warrior woman named Xena in the episode “Warrior Princess” (March 1995), after Vanessa Angel, the actress originally cast for the role, fell ill and was unable to travel to New Zealand for the shooting. Lawless subsequently returned as Xena in two more episodes of the first season where her character turned from villainess to heroine. The character became so popular that a spin-off series was created – Xena: The Warrior Princess (1995-2001).
          Do you know than Lucy Lawless has a cameo in the 2002 Tobey Maguire starrer Spider-Man? She was a punk rock girl.
