          Ang Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant accident na naganap noong April 26, 1986 ay isa sa dalawang tinaguariang Level 7 event sa kasaysayan (ang isa pa ay ang Fushima Daiichi Nuclear disaster na bunsod ng nangyaring lindol at tsunami sa Japan noong March 11, 2011). Ang Chernobyl ay matatagpuan sa Uktraine na noo’y bahagi pa ng Soviet Union. Mula 1986 hanggang 2000, umabot ng mahigit 350,400 ang inilikas at inilipat ng tirahan sa mga nakontaminadong lugar sa Belarus at Ukraine.
          Itinuturing itong isang dahilan ng pagbagsak at pagkabuwag ng Soviet Union. Una, gumastos ang pamahalaan ng USSR ng mahigit 10 billion dollars na naging dahilan ng paghina ng ekomomiya nito. Dahil din sa disaster na ito, nagkaroon ng malawakang reporma sa pamahalaan.
          Ayon sa Greenpeace, aabot ng mahigit 200,000 katao ang tinatayang naapektuhan ng radioactive fallout ng pagsabog ng Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant.
