January 24 in Philippine History:
1744 – Beginning of the Dagohoy Revolt (led by Francisco Dagohoy) in the island of Bohol, that lasted more than 85 years, the longest revolt against the Spaniards in the Philippines.
1979 – The Health Science Center of the University of the Philippines was created by Presidential Executive Order No. 519.
2011 – Environmental advocate and radio broadcaster Gerry Ortega was murdered along the national highway in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. Ortega, earlier, vehemently opposed mining in the biodiversity-rich province of Palawan. His death spawn the launching of “Save Palawan Movement” in gathering 10 million signatures to stop mining in the province.
