The 2001 musical-comedy film Josie and the Pussycats was based of the
popular comics series created by American cartoonist Daniel “Dan” S. DeCarlo (1919-2001)
and first published in February 1963. The series was adapted into a Saturday
morning cartoon by Hanna-Barbera Production in 1970. The film version by
Universal Pictures and MGM stars Rachel Leigh Cook as Josie McCoy, Tara Reid as
Melody Valentine, and Rosario Dawson as Valerie Brown.
