Picture Trivia
According to most standard
dictionaries, a “pigtail” is “a single long braid of hair hanging at the back
of the head.” Hair fashion style history, however, defined “pigtails” (plural)
as a hair style with two braids hanging on both sides of the head just above
the ears.”
During ancient times in China, it is a tradition that unmarried girls fixed their hair on this manner, two braids on both sides of the head. After marriage, it becomes a single braid on the back of the head. The Chinese brought this tradition to the West, and was subsequently adopted by Western women.
