1942 – The “Fall of Bataan,” which marked the beginning of total Japanese occupation of the Philippines during World War II. It was renamed “Araw ng Kagitingan” (Day of Valor) by President Ferdinand Marcos and declared a national holiday.

American actress Grace Kelly
(1929-1982) was first seen in a small part in the film Fourteen Hours (1951). Next was in the classic High Noon (1952), where she played the role of a Quaker’s wife
opposite Gary Cooper.
In the next four years, Kelly appeared in almost successive box office hits including John Ford’s Mogambo (1953), Alfred Hitchcock’s Dial M for Murder (1954), The Country Girl (1954) where she won the Academy Award for Best Actress portraying the role of a drunkard’s wife, Rear Window (1954), and To Catch a Thief (1955).
On April 1955, Grace Kelly met Prince Rainier of Monaco. It was reported that the prince was looking for a wife as he needed to have an heir according to the 1918 treaty between France and Monaco. Otherwise, Monaco will revert back to French rule.

Monaco. On April 12, 1956, Kelly arrived in Monaco with her family. Thousands
upon thousands of people filled the streets of Monaco to welcome their would-be
princess.
On
April 19, 1956, Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly were married. The event became
one of the most publicized marriages in world history. In that same year, MGM
released the last film that starred Kelly, the musical comedy High Society, for which the highlight
was Kelly’s duet with Bing Crosby singing “True Love.”
