1828 – The King of Spain, Ferdinand VII, issued a decree establishing a public bank in the Philippines to meet the requirements of increasing commerce and trade in the archipelago. It was originally called El Banco Español Filipino de Isabel II (Named after the king’s daughter) It was the first bank establsihed in the Philippines and Southeast and the ancestor of the present day Bank of the Philippine Islands.

1924 – The first Balagtasan (Tagalog poetic debate) was held in Manila between Jose Corazon de Jesus and Florentino Collantes. Though it was orated in a scripted debate, it was such a success that a second one was held on October 18, 1925, this time the protagonists argued on a controversial topic without a prepared script.

          Nagkakilala ang American actress-comedienne na si Lucille Ball (1911-1989) at ang Cuban bandleader na si Desi Arnaz (1917-1986) at nagtanan noong 1940. Matapos ang labing-isang taon ng pagsasama, sa edad ng 40-anyos, isinilang ni Lucille ang kanilang unang anak, si Lucie Desiree Arnaz, noong July 17, 1951. Makalipas lamang ang isa’t-kalahating taon, muling nagsilang si Lucille ng isang batang lalaki na pinanganlan nilang Desiderio Alberto Arnaz IV.
          Noong 1951 din nagsimula ang television show na I Love Lucy kung saan gumanap si Lucille Ball at Desi Arnaz bilang mag-asawang Lucy at Ricky Ricardo. Tinagurian silang “TV's First Family.” Tumagal ang show ng 180 episodes hanggang 1957. Pagkatapos nito ay nagkaroon ng mga pagbabago sa programa. Humaba ang oras ng show, nagdagdag ng ibang mga characters, binago ang storyline, at nagkaroon ng bagong titulo, The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour. Tumagal lamang ang show na ito ng 13 episodes hanggang 1960. Nang taon ding ito, noong May 4, 1960, nagdiborsyo ang mag-asawa.
