          Noong Nobyembre 4, 1750, ang bayan ng Olongapo (ang pangalan ay halaw sa mga salitang Sambal na Olo nin apo, na ang ibig sabihin ay “ulo ng matanda”) sa lalawigan ng Zambales ay itinatag. Naging lungsod ito noong Hunyo 1, 1966.

          Ang bagyong Uring (na may international name na Thelma) ay pumasok sa Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Nagdulot ito ng malakas na pag-ulan na naging sanhi ng malawakang pagbaha at pagguho ng lupa. Labis na nasalanta ang lungsod ng Ormoc. Nag-iwan ng humigit-kumulang 7,000 nasawi ang bagyon, na nakatala sa kasaysayan ng Pilipinas bilang “deadliest typhoon.”
