Ang pantaserye na Encantadia ay nagsimulang ipalabas sa GMA-7 noong Mayo 2, 2005. Ito ay nagtampok sa kuwento tungkol sa daigdig ng Encantadia na nahahati sa apat na kaharian ng Adamya ng mga Adamyan, Sapiro ng mga Sapiryan, Lireo ng mga diwata at Hathoria ng mga Hathor, at sa apat na makapangyarihang hiyas na sumasaklaw sa apat na elemento (tubig, lupa, hangin at apoy), at sa mga sanggreng tagapangalaga ng apat na hiyas. Ang pantaserye ay pinangunahan ng mga artistang si Iza Calzado (bilang Reynang Amihan), Sunshine Dizon (Sanggre Pirena), Diana Zubiri (Sanggre Danaya), at Karylle (Sanggre Alena), sa ilalim ng direksyon nina Mark Reyes at Gil Tejada Jr. Umabot ito ng 160 episodes at nagtapos noong Disyembre 9, 2005.

          American-based German actress Nastassja Kinski (full name Nastassja Aglaia Tocki Naskzynski) can be remembered for her portrayals in the films The Wrong Move (1975), where as 13-year-old she was depicted topless, Tess (1979), Exposed (1983), and in two erotic films, Stay As You Are (1978) and Cat People (1982). She won the Golden Globe Award for her lead role in the film Tess.
          Do you know that Kinski had a romantic relationship with director-producer Roman Polanski, her would-be director in Tess, who is 28 years her senior? This was in 1976. It was in the pages of different newspapers and magazines because Kinski was only 15 years old at the time, and Polanski was 43.

"Encantadia" was one of the shows that made GMA-7 atop the ratings charts during the mid 2000s, among other fantaseryes, yet the skyrocketing costs of producing such programs soon took a toll on the network's financial standing. A remake of Encantadia was later produced by the same network 11 years later.
