Events that happened on May 14
1903 – The play Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow) was stopped on its opening night at the Teatro Libertad in Sta Cruz, Manila. The Americans in the audience branded the play seditious, climbed up the stage and ransacked the set. The author Aurelio Tolentino, his brother Jacinto and 12 others were arrested for sedition.
1935 – The Philippines ratified the 1935 Constituion that created the Commonwealth of the Philippines.
1984 – The 183 members of the Philippines’ first regular legislature under the 1974 Constitution were elected.
1987 – The hottest temperature in Metro Manila was recorded at 38.5 degrees Celsius.
