Picture Trivia
Mikhail Sergeyevich Gorbachev was a former leader of the Soviet Union. In the last part of the 1980s, he tried to put an end to the so-called Cold War between the Soviet Union and the United States. Gorbachev, together with U.S. President Ronald Reagan (1911-2004), initiated a summit conference to resolve the conflict between the two superpowers, and he also implemented changes – perestroika – inside the Communist Party and introduced glasnost to the Soviet people. Because of this, Gorbachev was bestowed the Nobel Prize for Peace in 1990.
