Events that happened on February 8
1898 – Emilio Jacinto and Feliciano Jocson reorganized the Katipunan after the killing of Andres Bonifacio.
1935 – The Philippine Constitution was completed and approved by the Constitutional Convention that started on July 30, 1934, by a vote of 177 to 1.
1945 – Burning of Intramuros by the retreating Japanese forces.
1967 – The Movement for the Advancement of Nationalism (MAN) was established to promote a self-reliant foreign policy, a Filipino-controlled economy, as well as the abrogation of unequal treaties and agreements between the Philippines and the United States.
1986 – U.S. Senator Richard Lugar accused Pres. Ferdinand Marcos of cheating in the snap election.
1987 – The 1986 Constitution, also known as the Cory Constituion, was ratified. It provided for a return to the republican form of government and a bicameral legislature composed of a House of Representatives and a Senate.
1990 – A magnitude 6.8 earthquake hit the island of Bohol. The epicenter is located 17 kilometers east of Tagbilaran City. The bridge connecting the towns of Jagna and Duero collapsed. Six fatalities were reported and more than 200 were injured. About 46,000 people were displaced by the event and at least 7,000 among them were rendered homeless. Estimated damage to properties amounted to 154 million pesos.
2011 – Former AFP Chief of Staff and cabinet secretary Angelo Reyes committed suicide at the Loyola Memorial Park in Marikina, at the height of allegation of corruption in the military.
