The SEAT of Power

MOD, May 2013
On the cover: Angel Locsin

The “chair,” a simple piece of furniture can be an interesting source of fascination. Think that the mere resting place of man’s buttocks – the salumpuwit in Tagalog – could become the “Seat of (his) Power” (pp. 46, 47, 49). The sidebar “Did Ferdinand Magellan Really Bring the First Chair to the Philippines?” (p. 51) is equally enlightening.

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but in his delight is in the law of the LORD, and in His Law he meditates day and night. – The Book of Psalms 1:1-2, Holy Bible, The New King James Version.
