Fiction (Short Story): Sparrows in the Park

Mr. & Ms. Vol. 23 No. 4, May 18, 1999
On the cover: Lucy Torres-Gomez and her mom Julie Torres

This short story titled “Sparrows in the Park” (pp. 40-41), I wrote in memory of the infamous “Mendiola Massacre” (January 22, 1987) during the first year of President Cory Aquino. Farmers asking for genuine land reform rallying in the street going to Malacañang Palace were mercilessly fired upon and 18 of them were killed. The perpetrators of this heinous crime have yet been punished.

“.... He (or she) who does wrong will be repaid for the wrong which he (or she) has done, and there is no partiality.” – The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Colossians 3:25, Holy Bible, The New King James Version.
