Agosto 15 sa Kasaysayan ng Pilipinas

          Noong Agosto 15, 1789, sa termino ni Governor Felix Berenguer de Marquina, ang Manila ay naging open port para sa pandaigdigang kalakalan maliban sa mga produktong nagmumula sa Europe.

          Ang Japan ay pormal na sumuko sa Allied Forces noong Agosto 15, 1945, matapos bagsakan ng dalawang bomba atomika ang mga siyudad ng Hiroshima at Nagasaki. Sa barkong USS Missouri, nilagdaan ni Japanese Foreign Minister Mamoru Shigemitsu bilang kinatawan ni Emperor Hirohito at General Yoshijiro Umezu bilang kinatawan ng Imperial General Headquarters ang kasulatan ng pagsuko sa harapan nina General Douglas MacArthur at General Jonathan Wainwright.

          Idinaos ang kauna-unahang Metro Manila Music Festival noong Agosto 15, 1977 sa Folk Arts Theater. Ang awit na likha ni Ryan Cayabyab na “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika” na inawit ni Hadji Alejandro ang nagwagi ng grand prize. Pumangalawa ang “Anak” na likha at inawit ni Freddie Aguilar.

1900 – Alfredo C. Santos, pharmacist, discoverer of paheantharine (medicine for high blood), National Scientist (1978) and one of the founders of the National Academy of Science and Technology – in Santo Tomas, Pampanga (d. October 15, 1978).
1901 – Agustin C. Fabian, novelist and editor in Tagalog – in Plaridel, Bulacan (d. April 25, 1976).
1928 – Leandro V. Locsin, architect, interior designer and National Artist for Architecture (1990), in Silay, Negros Occidental (d. November 15, 1994).
