Pandemic? Three magazines, Look, Plain Truth, and Time, one is 83-and-a-half years old, another is around 31 years old, and the other, more recent, just almost 12 years old. Visionary? Prophetic? Foreboding? No need for elaboration, just “look” and you’ll understand the “plain truth” for they tell the “time.”

          Dr. David Ho is a renowned Chinese-American pioneering AIDS researcher. For three decades, Dr. Ho was in the forefront of research on the dreaded Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS). His group was among the first in the attempt to formulate an AIDS vaccine.
          Do you know that in the 1970s when Dr. Ho was still an undergraduate at the California Institute of Technology, he frequently played and won at blackjack. He was barely 20 years old when he went to the Las Vegas casinos and sit on the blackjack table. Owing to his mathematical prowess and fast memory, he was able to count and predict the cards.          The renowned animated-film producer Walt Disney (1901-1966) started as a commercial artist for a newspaper. He was, however, fired because the editor said he lacked imagination and good concept.           Do you know the first cartoon character produced by Walt Disney Production? This was Oswald the Lucky Rabbit (1928). It was conceptualized by Charles Mintz (1889-1939) who worked for Disney, but its ownership was later attributed to Walter Lanz (1899-1994).

GLIMPSE FROM THE PAST

John Lennon (1940-1980) on the cover of Time (December 22, 1980), exactly two weeks after he was assassinated by Mark David Chapman on Disyembre 8. It was labeled “when the music died,” which is somewhat a repetition of what happened on February 3, 1959, when rock singer Buddy Holly died in a plane crash, then labeled as “the day the music died” in Don McLean’s song “American Pie” (1971).

          Nagtapos si Pacquiao ng Elemetarya sa Saavedra Saway Elementary School sa General Santos City, pero huminto siya sa pag-aaral ng high school dahil sa lubhang kahirapan. Matagumpay niyang naitaboy palabas ng Ilocos Sur sina Governor Antonio Zabala at Bishop Bernardo Ustariz. Naging matagumpay sana ang paghihimagsik kung hindi siya pataksil na pinaslang ng isang nagkunwang kaibigan, si Miguel Vicos.           Ayon sa Biblia, si Moses ay anak nina Amram at Jochebed na mula sa lipi ni Levi. Ang pangalan ng kaniyang lolo sa panig ng kaniyang ama ay Kohath. Upang iligtas siya mula sa utos ng paraon (pharaoh) ng Egypt na patayin ang lahat na sanggol na lalaki na ipapanganak ng mga Israelita, ipinaanod siya sa isang takbang sa ilog.
