LOOK-ALIKES ON THE COVERS

        Browsing through hundreds, no thousands, of magazine covers, I found similarities of how the covers were presented, the angles, the features, and of course the persons on the cover. Yes, the persons on the covers that seemingly the mirror image of another – look-alikes.

        Since my high school days, I ostensibly developed some kind of mental retentivity. Recalling things that I have seen is a part of this. Using this ability, I tried collecting the images of magazine covers with similar features. Believe me, there are many.

          Here’s a MOD “close encounter,” Miriam Quiambao on the left and Raquel Mababangloob on the right. Sans the eye shadow, the analogy is uncanny.

          The magazine Prime Editions (later Prime Weekly Edition) had a lot of cover girls that can be considered doppelgangers. Take a look at the succeeding covers and wonder.

The answers are given but the solutions are left for the enthusiasts to discover.

THE YEAR OF THE YUPPIE

          During the 1980s and 1990s, a new word, “Yuppie,” became popular, which is the shortened form to mean a “young urban professional.” Joseph Epstein is said to have coined the term in 1982, although the word “yuppie” itself was already published in the magazine Chicago as early as May 1980 through an article written by Dan Rottenberg. The year 1984 was declared by Newsweek as “The Year of the Yuppie” (SEE attached cover page).

          One of the most popular porn stars of the 1970s is Marilyn Chambers (real name Marilyn Ann Briggs). Do you know that Chambers also appeared in legitimate mainstream films? Among them, The Owl and the Pussycat (1970, where she used the screen name Evelyn Long), Together (1971, where she starred using her real name), and sa Rabid (1977, as Marilyn Chambers under the direction of David Cronenberg). Chambers also sang and recorded a disco single, Benihana (1976), the original copies of which are now considered collector’s items.
