          Do you know that Hollywood actress and fashion model Denise Richards posed nude for Playboy barely five months after giving birth? Richards, who is known for her portrayals in such films as Blonde and Blonder, Starship Troopers, Wild Things, and The World Is Not Enough, was the former wife of actor Charlie Sheen. On March 2004, she gave birth to their first child. Barely five months later, she did nude pictorials which appeared in a 10-page spread of the Playboy December 2004 issue. She was even labeled by Playboy as “Drop Dead Gorgeous,” and was also the magazine’s cover girl.

Ang Buwan ng Hunyo

          Ang buwan ng Hunyo o June ay pang-anim na buwan sa Gregorian Calendar. Maraming iba’t-ibang etimolohiya ang pinaniniwalaang pinanggalingan ng pangalan ng buwang ito. Ang June ay dating pang-apat na buwan sa Roman Calendar na sinasabing ipinangalan kay Juno, na kapatid at asawa ng punong-diyos ng mga Romano na si Jupiter. Mayroon ding nagsasabing ito ay mula sa pangalan ni Junius Brutus, isang bayaning nagpalaya sa mga Romano sa mga mananakop na Estruscans noong 510 B.C. Maaari ring mula ito sa tawag sa mababang kalipunan ng Roman Senate na Juniores. Ayon sa manunulang Romano na si Ovid (Publius Ovidius Naso, 43 B.C. – A.D. 17), ang pangalan ng buwan ay mula sa salitang juvenis na ang ibig sabihin ay “kabataan.” Ang buwang ng June ay laging naiaangkop bilang buwan ng kasalan dahil noon umanong sinaunang panahon, ito ang buwan na pinipili ng mga kabataang magsing-irog na pagdausan ng kanilang kasal.

          Sa Pilipinas, ang Hunyo ay karaniwang buwan kung saan nagsisimula ang tag-ulan. Isang kabalintunaan o irony sapagkat sa buwan ng Hunyo rin itinatakda ang simula ng pasukan sa paaralan. Sa kalakhang bahagi rin ng buwang ito ipinagdiriwang ng Pilipinas ang kaniyang kasaralinlan.

          Ang rosas, higit lalo ang may pulang kulay, ang natatanging bulaklak ng buwan ng Hunyo. Samantalang ang mga birthstones ng buwan ay ang perlas, moonstone at alexandrite.

1810 – Spain granted all colonies in the Americas and the Philippines representation in the Spanish Cortes.

1931 – The Correctional Institute for Women was established as a branch of the Bureau of Prisons at the Welfareville compound in Mandaluyong with Patrocina M. Garcia as first superintendent.

1946 – Philippine Airline resumed operations after a five-year hiatus brought about by World War II, giving service to 15 domestic points with five Douglas DC-3s.

1975 – The Philippine Heart Center for Asia was inaugurated in Quezon City with Dr. Avelino Aventura as director. The hospital and research center, a project of then First Lady Imelda Marcos, had the most modern facilities for heart and related diseases in Asia at that time.

1977 – Start of the first PAEC Course on “Introduction to Nuclear Power.”

1986 – Corazon Aquino called for a boycott of all establishments closely associated with the Marcos government.

          Do you know that the iconic supermodel Cheryl Tiegs is mentioned in the lyrics of the theme song of the TV classic series The Fall Guy that starred Lee Majors? The title of the song is “The Unknown Stuntman” (1984), written by Glen A. Larson, Gail Jensen and Dave Somerville. It was sang by Majors himself. Aside from Tiegs, the other celebrities in the lyrics include Farrah Fawcett, Bo Derek, Sally Field, Jaclyn Smith, Cheryl Ladd, Raquel Welch, Robert Redford, Clint Eastwood, and Burt Reynolds.
