LOOK-ALIKES ON THE COVERS

        Browsing through hundreds, no thousands, of magazine covers, I found similarities of how the covers were presented, the angles, the features, and of course the persons on the cover. Yes, the persons on the covers that seemingly the mirror image of another – look-alikes.

        Since my high school days, I ostensibly developed some kind of mental retentivity. Recalling things that I have seen is a part of this. Using this ability, I tried collecting the images of magazine covers with similar features. Believe me, there are many.

          The witty and beautiful Shawn Yao, incomparable. Asian women, though, so they say, have many distinctive yet similar facial features. Take a look at these magazine covers and notice that Miss Yao is somewhat a cross between Zhang Ziyi and Michelle Yeoh. Well, they all had Chinese ancestry and exotic beauty.

          In these four comparisons between Iza Calzado and Jennifer Garner, one would wonder, could they have shared the same genes in a common ancestry? The first covers show the angle like they were frames taken from a film a few notches apart; the second, two look-alike beautiful, sexy and well-fit ladies; the third, Iza Calzado looks like a younger version of Jennifer Garner, and the fourth, the eyes and the cheekbones tell it all. Indeed, the press may well pick-up that Iza Calzado is the “Jennifer Garner of the Philippines.” Hurrah to Reyna Amihan of Encantadia and Marvel's Elektra!

Unang lumabas ang nobelang komiks na ito noong Nobyembre 16, 1955 sa mga pahina ng Hiwaga Komiks. Ito ay isinulat ni A. S. Vel (buong pangalan Antonio S. Velasquez) at iginuhit ni Alfredo “Fred” Alcala at (sa ibang pagkakataon) ni Teny Henson.

          The television series General Hospital, which started on April 1, 1963, is considered as the “longest running soap opera” in the United States. The husband and wife team of Frank and Doris Hursley conceptualized the soap opera that revolved around the events and circumstances inside a “general hospital.” Hence, the title.
          Do you know that renowned actress Elizabeth Taylor is an avid fan of General Hospital? For this, she appeared in one episode of the soap opera. This was on the November 17, 1981 episode during the wedding of Luke Spencer (played by Anthony Geary) and Laura Webber (Genie Francis). In the wedding, the guest character Helena Cessadine (Elizabeth Taylor) gave a curse. It was recorded as the “most-watched event in daytime soap opera history.”

          Ang “Climate Change” ay patungkol sa pagbabago-bago ng klima sa buong daigidig o sa isang rehiyon sa paglipas ng panahon, na maaaring sa loob ng ilang dekada o hanggang milyong-milyong taon. Sa kasalukuyang paggamit ng terminong ito, lalo na sa mga usapin na patungkol sa mga alituntuning pangkapaligiran (environmental policy), ito ay tumutukoy sa mga pagbabagong nagaganap sa klima ng daigidig sa kasalukuyang kapanahunan, kasama na rito ang pagtaas ng average surface temperature ng daigidig na tinatawag na “Global Warming.”

          Sinasabing ang Climate Change ay isang environmental domino effect. Ang Global Warming ay nagpaparami ng water vapor sa himpapawid, na humihigop ng sumisingaw na init ng daigdig. Ang tumataas na temperatura ay tumutunaw sa mga niyebe at yelo na tumatakip sa sangkalupaan ng North at South pole. Higit na malaking nakalitaw na lupa, higit na init na mula sa sinag ng araw ang nilalagom ng lupa na lalong nagpapataas ng temperature sa ibabaw ng daigidig, na patuloy na tumutunaw ng higit na maraming niyebe at yelo. Tumataas at lalong umiinit ang ibabaw ng tubig sa karagatan, na lumilikha ng higit na malalakas na bagyo at malawakang pagbaha, samantalang ang bahagi naman ng kalupaan ay lalong umiinit at natutuyo.

Ang pamagat ng nobela ay hiram mula sa mga maalamat na kuwento tungkol kay King Arthur na lumaganap noong ika-12 siglo. Datapuwa’t naiiba ang nilalaman ng kuwento. Nauna pang nailabas ang likhang ito ni Bermudez sa Mabuhay Komiks at naisapelikula ng LVN Pictures kaysa sa pelikula ni Alan Ladd na The Black Knight (1954).           Hollywood actress Elizabeth Taylor (1932-2011) won the Academy Best Award awards twice, for the films Battlefield 8 (1960) and Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (1966). Do you know that she also received many international citations in different fields? Two among these are the French Legion of Honor (1987) and Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (2000). In 2001, because of Taylor’s humanitarian works, especially in soliciting 200-million-dollar funds for research on AIDS and in propagating international awareness about the disease, she was given a Presidential Citizens Medal.

1986 – Corazon Aquino and Salvador Laurel was sworn by Justice Claudio Teehankee as president and vice-president at the Club Filipino. Ferdinand Marcos held his own inauguration at Malacañang Palace, officiated by Supreme Court Chief Justice Ramon Aquino. Later, U.S. black hawk helicopters attacked the Palace. Marcos fled but was forcibly taken by the Americans to Clark Air Base and then to Guam.
