LOOK-ALIKES ON THE COVERS

        Browsing through hundreds, no thousands, of magazine covers, I found similarities of how the covers were presented, the angles, the features, and of course the persons on the cover. Yes, the persons on the covers that seemingly the mirror image of another – look-alikes.

        Since my high school days, I ostensibly developed some kind of mental retentivity. Recalling things that I have seen is a part of this. Using this ability, I tried collecting the images of magazine covers with similar features. Believe me, there are many.

 

          Let us start with the “not so obvious.” When you look at the two successive MOD covers (October and November 2012), you would think Bea Alonzo and Marian Rivera are sisters. Look at the facial features, especially the eyes and lips. And I considered these “not so obvious.”

          Here are two more MOD cover pages exactly eight months apart, where you might think of experiencing déjà vu with Angel Aquino (MOD Filipina, June 19, 1992) and Josephine Velasquez (MOD, February 19, 1993). As you look on their lips, it’s like two succeeding frames in a screen shot.

          Maybe it’s just my imagination playing wild. Maybe it’s just a freak combination of photographic effects. Whether one admit it or not, for this particular comparison, Eula Valdez is a look-alike of Natassa Kinski. Pouting lips and all.

          This one is not new. Many may have already noticed that Rufa Mae Quinto looks very much like Jessa Zaragoza, but it’s still fun to behold in this two covers of Sexy Movie Stars Komiks Magazine.

          Ah now this is just about nearly perfect. Maricar Reyes on the cover of Maven and Arci Muñoz on the cover of Bannawag. Don’t blink and tell me if they don’t look very much like the same lady.

          Wide-brimmed dimpled smiles bring out the best in cover girls. You can see apparent similarities with the way ladies give their smiles. Just look at Agot Isidro and Audrey Tan.

Events that happened on February 24

1984 – AFP Chief of Staff Fabian Ver ordered the 15th Air Force Strike Wing under Antonio Sotelo to left off from Villamor Air Base. It carried enough firepower to annihilate the rebel soldiers in Camp Crame and Camp Aguinaldo. Gen. Ver asked President Marcos permission to bomb the rebel positions, but the president said no because many civilians will be harmed in the process.

2006 – Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo declared Proclamation 1017 placing the Philippines under a state of emergency, in an attempt to subdue alleged military coup. She lifted the proclamation after one week amid much protests from all sectors of society.

2011 – Charice Pempenco won as Best New Artist in the J-Wave’s Tokyo Hot 100 awards besting other international artists including Bruno Mars and Justin Bieber.

          Alam niyo ba na hindi “The Beatles” ang unang pangalan ng grupo ni John Lennon?  Unang tinawag na “The Quarrymen” ang grupong itinatag nina John Lennon at Paul McCartney noong 1955. Events that happened on February 17:

1872 – Martyrdom of Gomburza (Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora). The three priests were executed by the Spaniards in connection with the Cavite Mutiny.

1897 – Battle of Zapote Bridge (in Bacoor, Cavite). Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo and his men laid a trap for advancing Spanish forces at the bridge, which connects the provinces of Rizal and Cavite, and annihilated them.

1899 – The Associacion Nacional de la Cruz Roja (National Association of the Red Cross) was adopted as a new name of the Hijas de la Revolucion (Daughters of the Revolution). This was the precursor of the Philippine National Red Cross.

1905 – The Philippine Constabulary School, the precursor of the Philippine Military Academy and first military school in the Philippines, was established at the Sta. Lucia Barracks in Intramuros. After three years, the school was transferred to Baguio City to become the premier military institution in the country.

1942 – The Japanese occupational government issued its education policy on the propagation of Filipino culture, teaching of Nippongo, and promotion of the virtue of industry.

          Alam niyo ba na British ang ama ng artista at mang-aawit na si Bea Alonzo, subalit apat na taong gulang pa lamang siya nang maghiwalay ang kaniyang mga magulang. Ang buo niyang pangalan ay Phylbert Angellie Ranollo Fagestrom. Una siyang lumabas sa ABS-CBN drama na Kay Tagal Kang Hinintay (2003) noong siya ay 15-taong-gulang pa lamang.
