Ang Pinoy Komiks ang pang-apat na komiks na inilimbag ng Graphic Arts Services, Inc. Ito ay unang lumabas sa sirkulasyon noong Mayo 23, 1963. Sa komiks na ito unang lumabas si Captain Barbell, ang popular superhero na likha ni Mars Ravelo at iginuhit ni Jim Fernandez. Itinampok sa pabalat ng unang isyu ang kuwento ni Damy Velasquez na “Rogel Maglaya” (1963-1965) na iginuhit ni Celso Trinidad.

       Do you know that the film The Hunt for Red October (1990), starring Sean Connery (as Soviet submarine captain Marko Ramius) and Alec Baldwin (as CIA analyst Jack Ryan), was based on the novel of the same title authored by Tom Clancy in 1984? It is in this novel that Clancy started his rise to fame, especially when former U.S. President Ronald Reagan (1911-2004) said he liked reading the novel and even called it “unputdown-able.”

       Do you also know the verse and chapter of the Bible passage that Ivan Putin (played Peter Firth) quoted at the start of the film? It is from Revelation 16:16-17, which narrates about Armageddon.

       In 1991, when the film was released in VHS format, the color of the tape was red.

       The director of The Hunt for Red October, John McTiernan, is also the director of Die Hard (1988) that starred Bruce Willis. Because of McTiernan’s obligation to The Hunt for Red October, he passed the opportunity of directing the sequel of the Willis starrer Die Hard II (1990).

1959 – The province of Leyte was divided into Leyte and Southern Leyte by virtue of Republic Act No. 2227. Tacloban City remained the capital of Leyte while Maasin became the capital of Southern Leyte.

– Lanao Province was divided into Lanao del Sur and Lanao del Norte by virtue of Republic Act No. 2228. Iligan City became capital of Lanao del Sur, while Marawi City was that of Lanao del Norte.

          Unang lumabas ang fictional monster na ito sa pelikulang Godzilla (1954) ni Ishiro Honda. Mula noon, naging pop cultural icon na ang character na ito at lumabas na sa 28 pelikula.

          Sa wikang Hapon, Gojira ang pangalan ng higanteng radioactive tyrannosaurus rex na ito, na mula sa portmanteau o pagsasanib-salita ng dalawang salitang Hapon na gorira (“gorilya”) at kujira (“balyena”).

          Alam niyo ba na ang original Godzilla roar o ang pag-atungal ng monster na ito ay copyrighted? Una itong narinig sa 1954 Godzilla. Nilikha ng Japanese composer na si Akira Ifukube ang tunog ng kaniyang pag-atungal sa pamamagitan ng pagkiskis ng resin-covered na mga guwantes sa mga maluwag na kuwerdas ng isang double bass instrument at pagkatapos ay pinabagal ang playback nito.

          Alam niyo rin ba na may pelikula kung saan naglaban ang dalawang dambuhalang sina King Kong at Godzilla? Ito ay ang King Kong vs. Godzilla na idinirehe rin ni Honda at ipinalabas noong 1962. Ang ideya para paglabanin si King Kong (likha ni Edgar Wallace) at Godzilla (likha nina Tnoshira Honda at Eiji Tsuburuya) sa isang pelikulang ay mula kay Willis O’Brien, na siyang nauna ng gumawa ng special effects para sa 1933 pelikulang King Kong.

          Si Nikolai Laenin (tunay na pangalan Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, 1870-1924) ang kinikilala sa kasaysayan na founder at “Father of the Soviet Union.” Tinagurian din siyang “The Greatest Genius of Mankind” at “The Teacher of the People of the World.”

          Ayon sa historian na si John Archibald Getty III, utang ng mamamayan ng daigdig kay Lenin ang simulain at kilusang politikal na nakasalalay sa katarungang panlipunan at pagkakapantay-pantay ng mga tao.

          Sinabi naman ni Professor Albert Resis (Northern Illinois University) sa kaniyang artikulo sa Encyclopedia Britannica, na si Lenin ay ang “most significant political leader” ng ika-20 siglo. Kinikilala siya hindi lamang sa sirkulo ng dating Soviet Union kundi maging ng mga scholars ng mga non-communist na bansa bilang “greatest revolutionary thinker, leader and statesman in history.”

          Alam niyo ba na isang asteroid ang ipinangalan kay Lenin? Ito ay ang asteroid 852 Wladilena (na natuklasan noong April 2, 1916 ni Russian astronomer Sergey Belyavsky (1883-1953).

1898 – General Emilio Aguinaldo issued a proclamation urging the Filipinos to resume the revolution against Spain.

1967 – Lapiang Malaya (LM) led by its founder Valentin de los Santos engaged the Philippine Constabulary in a violent confrontation that led to the massacre of 32 LM members. Later De los Santos was committed to the National Mental Hospital were he died.

          Nora Louise Kuzma is better known in the pornographic film industry as Traci Lords. At the age of 15, Kuzma used a California driver’s license with the name Kristie Nussbaum and faked her age to be 18 so that she could do nude modeling.
          The first porno film that Kuzma did under the screen name Traci Lords is What Gets Me Hot (1984), when she was barely 16 years old. She was paid 200 dollars for it. Under American law, because Kuzma was still a minor, the film What Gets Me Hot and 77 other sex films she did before her 18th birthday is considered “child pornography.” Today, the original and uncut version of What Gets Me Hot (79 minutes) is considered a collector’s item.
          The only porno film legally available in the United States uncut is Traci I Love You (1987), which she herself produced.
          According to an interview in A Current Affair (1988), Lords quit the porno industry in 1986 after she was arrested by the FBI. In the next two years, she tried to put her life in order by joining the Alcoholic Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
          The first mainstream film she did was the remake of Roger Corman’s sci-fi Not of This Earth (1988), though she also did two nude scenes.
          In 1995, Lords had a guest appearance in the popular TV series Melrose Place. In that same year, she also ventured into singing and had her solo album 1,000 Fires. The album includes the single “Control” (February 1995), which reached the Number 2 of the Billboard Top Dance/Club Songs Chart, and “Fallen Angel” (September 1995), which reached Number 11. The instrumental version of “Control” was used in the movie adaptation of the video game Mortal Combat, while “Fallen Angel” became the soundtrack of the film Virtuosity (1995).

          Ang “Climate Change” ay patungkol sa pagbabago-bago ng klima sa buong daigidig o sa isang rehiyon sa paglipas ng panahon, na maaaring sa loob ng ilang dekada o hanggang milyong-milyong taon. Sa kasalukuyang paggamit ng terminong ito, lalo na sa mga usapin na patungkol sa mga alituntuning pangkapaligiran (environmental policy), ito ay tumutukoy sa mga pagbabagong nagaganap sa klima ng daigidig sa kasalukuyang kapanahunan, kasama na rito ang pagtaas ng average surface temperature ng daigidig na tinatawag na “Global Warming.”

          Sinasabing ang Climate Change ay isang environmental domino effect. Ang Global Warming ay nagpaparami ng water vapor sa himpapawid, na humihigop ng sumisingaw na init ng daigdig. Ang tumataas na temperatura ay tumutunaw sa mga niyebe at yelo na tumatakip sa sangkalupaan ng North at South pole. Higit na malaking nakalitaw na lupa, higit na init na mula sa sinag ng araw ang nilalagom ng lupa na lalong nagpapataas ng temperature sa ibabaw ng daigidig, na patuloy na tumutunaw ng higit na maraming niyebe at yelo. Tumataas at lalong umiinit ang ibabaw ng tubig sa karagatan, na lumilikha ng higit na malalakas na bagyo at malawakang pagbaha, samantalang ang bahagi naman ng kalupaan ay lalong umiinit at natutuyo.

          Sa animated series na The Simpsons na nilikha ni Matt Groening, alam niyo ba na ang pangalan ng rebellious na anak na si Bart ay mula sa anagram ng salitang “brat” (katumbas marahil ng salitang Pilipino na “pasaway”)? Ang mga character sa The Simpsons ay hinalaw ni Groening sa sariling niyang pamilya, at si Bart ay inihalintulad niya sa kaniyang nakatatandang kapatid na si Mark, lalo na sa pag-uugali. Binuo niya ang character batay sa isang extreme version ng “typically misbehaving child.”

          Ang nagboses kay Bart ay isang babae, si Nancy Cartwright, na nagboses din sa iba pang mga batang lalaking character sa The Simpsons, sina Nelson Muntz, Ralph Wiggum, Todd Flanders at Kearney. Sa unang season ng animated series, inilihim ng Fox Network ang bagay na ito sa mga manunood.

          The lightsaber is an extraordinary weapon used by Jedis and Siths in the Star Wars film series. In the original lightsaber in the first Star Wars (1977) film, a blade of light 1.33 meter in length will extend once it is wielded. It can cut through almost anything and can cut a wound like being scorched by an extremely hot metal. There are no two lightsabers exactly alike, but Obi-Wan Kenobi’s lightsaber was similar to the one given to Luke Skywalker.
