Events that happened on May 21
1898 – General Emilio Aguinaldo issued a proclamation urging the Filipinos to resume the revolution against Spain.
1967 – Lapiang Malaya (LM) led by its founder Valentin de los Santos engaged the Philippine Constabulary in a violent confrontation that led to the massacre of 32 LM members. Later De los Santos was committed to the National Mental Hospital were he died.

Picture Trivia
The TV series Games of Thrones, created by David Benioff and Daniel Brett Weiss, and first aired on American television on April 17, 2011. It is an adaptation of George Raymond Richard Martin’s fantasy novel series A Song of Ice and Fire, which in turn got its inspiration from the English “Wars of the Roses” (1455-1485) between the houses of Lancaster and York, reflected in the novel’s houses of Lannister and Stark.

1815 – A Spanish royal decree opened the ports of California, Mexico and Peru to the Manila trade, thus ending the monopoly of the Galleon Trade.
1899 – The Battle of Quingua (now Plaridel, Bulacan) where Filipino revolutionary forces led by General Gregorio H. del Pilar defeated the American forces led by J. Franklin Bell.
1905 – The first chapter of the Knights of Columbus in the Philippines was organized by American soldiers led by Richard Campbell. The first Filipinos to become members of the group were Antonio M. Opisso and Anastacio Quijano.
