1785 – The Real Compañia de Filipinas (Royal Company of the Philippines) was established to encourage direct between Spanish and the Philippines and other Asian countries. It was abolished in 1834 as Manila was opened to world trade.
1917 – Enactment Act No. 2711 created the following provinces and cities: Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur, Pangasinan, La Union and Baguio City (as parts of Ilocos Region), Cagayan, Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Batanes (as parts of Cagayan Valley Region), Bulacan, Pampanga, Bataan and Zambales (as parts of Central Luzon Region), Tayabas (now Quezon and Aurora), Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Morong (now Rizal) and Palawan (as parts of Southern Tagalog Region), Antique and Negros Occidental (as parts of Western Visayas Region), Negros oriental (as part of Central Visayas Region), and Sulu (as part of Western Mindanao Region).
1929 – The province of Misamis was divided into two: Misamis Oriental with Cagayan de oro as its capital, and Misamis Occidental with Oroquieta as its capital.
1996 – The National Centennial Commission together with the Bases Conversion Authority organized the Philippine Centennial Exposition ’98 Corporation (Expocorp) to facilitate the construction of the 60-hectare historical, cultural and economic Expo Filipino Theme Park.

Picture Trivia
The 1990s popular TV series The
X-Files was conceptualized by Chris Carter. The names of the characters was
derived from real-life people. The name of the main character Fox Mulder
(played by David Duchovny), for instance, came from two person: Fox is the name
of his childhood friend and Mulder was the maiden name of Carter’s mother. For
the female lead character, Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), the surname Scully
was borrowed from Dodger sports announcer Vin Scully, whom Carter always hear
as a young boy.
The science consultant of the TV series
was Anne Simon, a virologist from the University of Massachusetts. She is the
author of the 1999 non-fiction book The Real Science Behind the X-Files:
Microbes, Meteorites, and Mutants.
