          In 1993, Bette Midler appeared in the musical television film Gypsy as Rose Elizabeth Thompson Hovick, the mother of gypsy artist, entertainer and vedette striptease performer Rose Lee (real name Rose Louise Hovick, 1911-1970). For her portrayal, Midler won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Miniseries or Televition Film.
