Can Animals Think

Family Today Vol. 2 No. 2, September 16-30, 1999
On the cover: Siblings Cheska and Patrick Garcia

This is probably the only time that my article was bylined “Ernest Lawagan.” Probably just a “typo” on the part of the editors. They also made some editing such that instead of the animals knowing “math and the sciences,” they made it an article about animals having “the ability to think.”

“Wolves and lambs will eat together in peace. Lions will eat hay like oxen, and a snake on the ground will not hurt anyone. They will not hurt or destroy each other on all my holy mountain, says the LORD.” – Isaiah 65:25, The Everyday Bible, New Century Version.

Animals Know Math, Too!

Prime Weekly Edition Vol. 3 No. 27, July 7, 1988
On the cover: Vic Vargas’ daughter Mary Jane Asuncion

The compilation of information “Animals Know Math, Too!” (p. 7) has been written several times, but this is probably the earliest version.

Another compilation, “July Celebrities” (pp. 14-15), is also in this Prime Weekly Edition July 7, 1988 issue. Imagine compiling more than 100 celebrities born in the month of July in 1988 when Internet access is not yet available. It’s a tedious task, but for someone who loves to collect and archive information and trivia, it’s fun.

“So from the earth he formed all the wild animals and all the birds of the air, and brought them to the man to see what he would call them; whatever the man called each living creature, that would be its name.” – Genesis 2:19, The Revised English Bible.
