LOOK-ALIKES ON THE COVERS

Browsing through hundreds, no thousands, of magazine covers, I found similarities of how the covers were presented, the angles, the features, and of course the persons on the cover. Yes, the persons on the covers that seemingly the mirror image of another – look-alikes.
Since my high school days, I ostensibly developed some kind of mental retentivity. Recalling things that I have seen is a part of this. Using this ability, I tried collecting the images of magazine covers with similar features. Believe me, there are many.

This one will create goosebumps as you look at it. More than half a century apart, but the resemblance is extraordinary. Behold Marlene Dauden and Judy Ann Santos.

and Judy Ann Santos on the cover of MOD (December 2012)

Cristina Crisol and Carminia Villaroel were just a few years older than the other. They have the most beautiful faces; no one can compare to them during their prime. Both had sweet and alluring smiles. They may have taken a different path in their career, but their faces left unforgettable memories on the minds of those who witness them onscreen. One may even mingle the images and discover so many similarities in beauty.

There are ladies with whom it’s hard to find a look-alike, because their beauty is quite unique. Chynna Ortaleza is an example. Yet, I still found one in the person of Miss Fort Ilocandia 2005, Abby Cruz.

and Abby Cruz on the cover of MOD Summer Special (April 2005)

Here again, the smiles give it all. Oh that sweetness and charm, and they come in twos. Wouldn’t you mistake Regine Tolentino and Coleen Garcia for mother and daughter, nay sisters.

Recorded forever in the cover pages of Sexy Movie Star Komiks Magazine, the sexy look-alikes of the late 1990s, Rita Magdalena and Glydel Mercado.

Apreal Tolentino was on the cover of Toyz for the Boyz fourth issue three years and three months ahead of Iwa Moto’s cover appearance in UNO. What a resemblance, face, body and bumpers!

This is looking at Judy Ann Santos with a different perspective, that is the sensual and the sexy. And when you look at Piel Morena on the Sexy Movie Star cover page, not knowing this blog, you would probably mistake her for Juday.

When you cut a Coca-cola bottle exactly in half from top to bottom, it’s like you created twins. Priscilla Almeda and Nini Jacinto, well, throw the sliced bottle away. Here you see the same anatomical features, eye brows, eyes, nose, philtrum, lips, chin, neck, breasts and body.

and Nini Jacinto on the cover of Seksi Love Beat (September 25, 1995)

Here’s a three-way analogy between Dia Diamante, Angeline Quinto and Jessica Sanchez. Again, the facial features give the defining points.

and Jessica Sanchez on the cover of Style Weekend (January 10, 2014)

Julia Montes was still a little girl when Reina Elizabeth Escudero became MOD magazine’s 15th Anniversary cover girl, but their looks bare resemblance.

A Second Rate Trying Hard Copycat

MOD Vol. 37 No. 1809, July 10, 2006
On the cover: Regine Tolentino

For someone who grew up reading Darna and Captain Barbell on komiks and had the privilege of being mentored in komiks script writing by the “Maestro of Komiks” himself, Mars Ravelo, I am bound by conscience to write this article after watching GMA-7’s Captain Barbell (2006). The title, “A Second Rate Trying Hard Copycat?” was not to degrade Captain Barbell but rather to call the attention of people concern with regards to blatant plagiarism.

Also in this MOD July 10, 2006 issue is the article “Body-Beautiful” (pp. 52-53), which is about the things that Hollywood actresses do to stay fit and sexy.

Pigtails worn by a college student featured
on the cover of Life (September 8, 1941).
         Picture Trivia
According to most standard dictionaries, a “pigtail” is “a single long braid of hair hanging at the back of the head.” Hair fashion style history, however, defined “pigtails” (plural) as a hair style with two braids hanging on both sides of the head just above the ears.”
During ancient times in China, it is a tradition that unmarried girls fixed their hair on this manner, two braids on both sides of the head. After marriage, it becomes a single braid on the back of the head. The Chinese brought this tradition to the West, and was subsequently adopted by Western women.
