During the 1980s and 1990s, a new
word, “Yuppie,” became popular, which is the shortened form to mean a “young
urban professional.” Joseph Epstein is said to have coined the term in 1982,
although the word “yuppie” itself was already published in the magazine Chicago
as early as May 1980 through an article written by Dan Rottenberg. The year
1984 was declared by Newsweek as “The
Year of the Yuppie” (SEE attached cover page).

One of
the most popular porn stars of the 1970s is Marilyn Chambers (real name Marilyn
Ann Briggs). Do you know that Chambers also appeared in legitimate mainstream
films? Among them, The Owl and the Pussycat (1970, where she used the
screen name Evelyn Long), Together
(1971, where she starred using her real name), and sa Rabid (1977, as Marilyn Chambers under the direction of David
Cronenberg). Chambers also sang and recorded a disco single, Benihana
(1976), the original copies of which are now considered collector’s items.

Kung hihimayin, ang “ma” ay isang unlaping nagbabadya ng katangian sa
salitang-ugat na “nigo,” na ang katumbas na kahulugan ay “mabuting kapalaran.”
Kaya ang
pagbating “MANIGONG BAGONG TAON!” ay pagsasaad na “nawa’y tamuhin ng binabati
ang isang “mabuting kapalaran sa bagong taon.”
