Events that happened on April 28

1611 – The University of Santo Tomas (UST) was established by the Dominicans initially as a college seminary. After five years it became the Colegio de Santo Tomas de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, and in 1645, it was declared a university by Pope Innocent X (1574-1655).

1888 – Jose Rizal arrived in San Francisco, California, on board the English steamer Belgic. The first thing he noted upon his arrival was the racial prejudice prevalent in the country.

1972 – Portraitist and landscape painter Fernando Amorsolo was declared the first National Artist by President Ferdinand Marcos at the Cultural Center of the Philippines.

1920 – Eleuterio Adevoso, guerilla leader (with nom de querre “Terry Magtanggol”), politician and one of the founders of the Progressive Party of the Philippines – in San Juan, Metro Manila. (d. March 22, 1975).

1932 – Adrian E. Cristobal, journalist, essayist, historical writer, newspaper columnist, and award-winning playwright. (d. December 22, 2007). 

1942 – Babalu (real name Pablito Sarmiento Jr), actor-comedian (d. August 27, 1998).

           Do you know that Steve Jobs, the co-founder of Apple Computers, was a dyslexic? Steve Jobs (1955-2011) had problems reading, writing and spelling words. These, however, didn’t hinder his genius from coming out. It is a fact that many of the known geniuses in history had a chapter of dyslexia in their early life, among them Alexander Graham Bell, Albert Einstein, Henry Ford, Isaac Newton and Leonardo da Vinci.
