The Eastern Sarus Crane: Is the Philippine' Largest Bird Already Extinct?

MOD Vol. 36 No. 1719, September 24, 2004
On the cover: Angelika dela Cruz

I submitted this article (earlier published in Mr. & Ms. March 4, 1997 issue) to MOD hoping it will get published anew to reiterate the “question” and concern regarding the Philippine Sarus Crane.

“For man also does not know his time. Just like fishes that are being taken in an evil net, and like birds that are taken in a trap, so the sons of men themselves are being ensnared at a calamitous time, when it falls upon them suddenly.” – Ecclesiastes 9:12, New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.

  2. Most of the research studies and records about the Eastern Sarus Cranes in the Philippines in the Office of the President were lost after 1986. I remembered there are 3 distinct subspecies in the Philippines.
