It happened 18 years ago. Disaster struck at the Cherry Hills subdivision in Barangay San Luis, Antipolo City. Massive landslides killed more than 50 residents and totally destroyed many houses. A subdivision was built in an area that is not suited for residential purposes, and developers even failed to comply with the requirements of National Building Code.
"Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them, I will show you whom he is like: He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock. But he who heard and did nothing is like a man who built a house on the earth without a foundation, against which the stream beat vehemently; and immediately it fell. And the ruin of that house was great." – The Gospel According to Luke 6:47-49, The Good News Bible in Today’s English Version.
And, 19 years later, a similar landslide occurs in the City of Naga, Cebu, although the only difference was that those were sitios that were affected, while the one in 1999 was a subdivision.
ReplyDeleteThere are many environmental timebombs like this and that of Itogon throughout the Philippines. All because during Cory Aquino's time, she gave logging concessions permits and allowed the RAPE and destruction of our forest resources. The people should also know this!
ReplyDeleteAccording to what I read in SunStar Cebu, mining is reported to be blamed for this landslide in Naga.
