This article – “Earthquake-Proof
Structures: Are There Such Things?” – was written and published 26 years ago.
Among the items I mentioned here are proposals for the upgrading of the
National Building Code and the Structural Code of the Philippines. It was even
endorsed by former PHIVOLCS Director Raymundo Punongbayan. Up to now, however,
no upgrading has been done.
