Runaway Asteroids (Close Encounters of the Massive Kind): Are We Ready for Them?

Manila Standard, January 3, 1999
(No copy or scanned image is available)

One of a few instances that my byline is seen in a newspaper: “Close Encounters of the Massive Kind – Runaway Asteroids: Are We Ready for Them?” is about possibly the greatest threat that could cause an Earth’s extinction level event. [NOTE: This is was also published in MOD (March 17, 2000) ]

“Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light, and the stars will fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.” – According to Matthew 24:29, New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.

Runaway Asteroids: Are We Ready for Them?

MOD Vol. 32 No. 1486, March 17, 2000
On the cover: Shaira Luna

MOD magazine’s March 17, 2000 “Headliners” featured my article “Close Encounters of the Massive Kind: Runaway Asteroids – Are We Ready for Them?” (pp. 10-11). This was also published in the Manila Standard (January 3, 1999).

“The first angel sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown to the earth; and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was burned up. Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood; and a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed. Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the springs of water; and the name of the star is Wormwood; and a third of the waters became wormwood; and many men died from the water, because it was made bitter. Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were darkened; and a third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.” – The Revelation of Jesus Christ 8:7-12, Holy Bible, The New King James Version.
