          Noong Agosto 13, 1898, bumagsak sa kamay ng puwersang mananakop ng mga Amerikano ang Manila. Si General Wesley Merritt (1836-1910) ang naging unang military governor ng Pilipinas. Datapuwa’t ang kaniyang termino ay tumagal lamang ng 16 na araw. Pinalitan siya ni General Elwell S. Otis.

          Aside from being a model, Carol Vitale (1946-2008) is also a dancer, athlete, fashion designer, radio broadcaster, television host and Miss Florida finalist. She started as a Playboy bunny in the latter part of the 1960s in Miami Playboy Club before she graced the cover page of Playboy August 1972 issue (SEE attached picture), and later became July 1974 “Playmate of the Month.”

          Ika-15 ng Abril, 1805, nang makarating sa Manila ang unang bakuna o vaccine laban sa smallpox. Ito ay dala ng expedition ng manggagamot na Kastilang si Dr. Francisco Javier de Balmis (1753-1819).

          Si Johnny Pangilinan ay isang manunulat ng nobela at scriptwriter sa pelikula na may trademark na paglalagay ng numero sa pamagat ng kaniyang kuwento nang siya ay nagsisimula pa lamang partikular na ang numerong apat o cuatro at pito. Isa sa mga isinulat niyang nobela ay ang “Cuatro Diablos,” patungkol sa apat na kagila-gilalas na sirkero, na lumabas sa mga pahina ng Tsampiyon Komiks (1957). Kabilang sa mga pelikulang ginawan niya ng screenplay ay ang Cuatro Cantos (1960), 5 Matitinik (1962), Pitong Pasiklab (1962), Tres Bravos (1964), at Pitong Zapata (1965)

Picture Trivia 

          Helen Dryden (1887-1981) was an American artist and industrial designer that ventured in the field of fashion in the early part of the 20th century. In the beginning, she was rejected by fashion magazines, including Vogue. Her works and illustrations were severely criticized. When American publisher Conde Montrose Nast (1873-1942) took over management of Vogue, and saw Dryden’s illustrations, he immediately ordered the editors to find her. That was the beginning of Dryden’s career in Vogue as cover and fashion illustrator that lasted 13 years.

Ang Tsampiyon Komiks ay unang lumabas sa sirkulasyon noong Marso 30, 1957. Sa unang tatlong isyu ay wala pa itong pangalan, at ang makikitang pamagat nito ay ? Komiks. Ang tandang-pananong – “?” – ay ginamit bilang isang paanyaya sa taong-bayan. Nagkaroon ng patimpalak upang hanapan ng pamagat ang komiks na ito, kung saan ang mapipiling pangalan ay magwawagi ng 200-pisong gantimpala. Ang napili ngang pamagat ay “Tsampiyon.”


Sa Tsampiyon Komiks lumabas ang “Lemuria,” isang makasaysayang pagtatambalan ng dalawang “alamat” sa larangan ng komiks na sina Nestor Redondo at Tony de Zuñiga.

          Sharon Stone became known for her portrayal in the film Basic Instinct (1992). Do you know that she was only paid 75,000 dollars for her role? On the sequel made 14 years after, Basic Instinct 2 (2006), however, her talent fee rose to a staggering 13.6 million dollars.
          In 1995, Stone won the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Dramatic Motion Picture for her role as Ginger in the Martin Scorsese film Casino opposite Robert de Niro. She was also nominated for the same role in the Academy Awards. In the same year, she was also part of the film The Quick and the Dead together with Gene Hackman, Russell Crowe and Leonardo diCaprio, and by November was given her “Star” in the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
