Pinay Matematika: Higit na Magaling ang mga Asiano & Noah, His Ark and the Great Flood are for Real

Sa aking kolum na “Pinay Matematika” ay inilahad ko ang mga Asiano, kabilang na ang mga Filipino, ay higit na matatalino kung matematika ang pag-uusapan.
“Noah, His Ark and
the Great Flood: They are for Real” is a very popular Lenten article. It was
twice published under the same title: (Celebrity
World magazine’s April 8, 1996, and Mr.
& Ms. magazine’s March 30, 1999 issues). An earlier shorter version
titled “Noah and His Ark: Were They Real?” was published in MOD Filipina magazine’s April 17, 1992
issue. Additional, more recent discoveries and information were later added. Another
abbreviated version (pertaining only to “The Construction of Noah’s Ark”) was
published in MOD Girl magazine’s
March 25, 2005 issue.
“I (GOD) am putting
my bow in the clouds. It will be the sign of My covenant with the world.
Whenever I cover the sky with clouds and the rainbow appears, I will remember
my promise to you and to all the animals that a flood will never again destroy
all living beings. When the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and
remember the everlasting covenant between me and all living beings on earth.
That is the sign of the promise which I am making to all living beings.” –
Genesis 9:12-17, The Good News Bible in
Today’s English Version.

|
My article “Scratch

people.
“The prayer offered in faith will heal the
sick man, the LORD will restore him to health, and if he has committed sins

MOD
Girl,
March 25, 2005 On the cover: Marylaine Louise “May” Viernes |
The “Girl Trivia”
section of MOD Girl March 25, 2005
issue featured a much abbreviated version of the “In the Bible” article that I
submitted. I didn’t like it, because for me nothing in the Bible is trivial. It
only included two items: “It is Not Delilah” that cut Samson’s hair, and “The Construction
of Noah’s Ark.”
NOTE: See also “Noah, His Ark and the Great Flood: They are for Real” (Mr. & Ms., March 30, 2017) for the entire article, “Straight from the Bible” (Prime Weekly Edition,
March 31, 1988) and “Facts from the Bible” (Celebrity
World, April 17, 1995) posts.

“Quiz for the Wiz” for Chinatown East

magazine, and “Braintwister” for Mr.
& Ms. magazine. I try to make them unique and interesting. Here’s an
example, “Word Countries” in Mr. &

illustration.

approach to “The Modern Math” is concisely explained.

“The first angel
sounded: And hail and fire followed, mingled with blood, and they were thrown
to the earth; and a third of the trees were burned up, and all green grass was
burned up. Then the second angel sounded: And something like a great mountain
burning with fire was thrown into the sea, and a third of the sea became blood;
and a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships
were destroyed. Then the third angel sounded: And a great star fell from
heaven, burning like a torch, and it fell on a third of the rivers and on the
springs of water; and the name of the star is Wormwood; and a third of the
waters became wormwood; and many men died from the water, because it was made
bitter. Then the fourth angel sounded: And a third of the sun was struck, a
third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them were
darkened; and a third of the day did not shine, and likewise the night.” – The

Let's Save Our Planet: Charge of the Last Tamaraw
Mr. & Ms. Vol.
22 No. 46, March 16, 1999 On the cover: Piolo Pascual and Angela Grant |
I’m a consistent contributor for the Mr. & Ms. magazine section “Let’s
Save Our Planet.” This one, “Charge of the Last Tamaraw” (p. 39) is a reissue taken
from the 9-part special features article “An Education of Philippine Endangered
Species” published earlier in Celebrity
World magazine (September 4 – October
30, 1995), for which I won the top prize of the Science and technology
Journalism Award sponsored by the Philippines Press Institute and the
Philippine Geothermal Inc.
“In addition, I have
noticed that in this world you find wickedness where justice and right ought to
be. I told myself, ‘GOD is going to judge the righteous and the evil alike,
because every thing, every action, will happen at its own set time.’ I decided
that GOD is testing us, to show us that we are no better than animals. After
all, the same fate awaits man and animal alike. One dies just like the
other.....” – Ecclesiastes 3:16-19, The Good News Bible in Today’s English
Version
