          Nagsimula ang actress, singer at dancer na si Debbie Reynolds sa Warner Brothers sa edad 16-anyos noong 1948. Makalipas ang dalawang taon, lumipat siya sa Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer at nagkaroon ng maliit subalit makabuluhang bahagi sa pelikulang Three Little Words (1950). Nasundan agad ito ng pelikulang Two Weeks with Love kung saan ang inawit niyang “Aba Daba Honeymoon” ay pumatok sa mga fans. Sa kaniyang unang pagbibida sa pelikulang Singin’ in the Rain (1952), nagsimula siyang pumaimbulog sa kasikatan.
          Noong 1957, itinampok siya sa pelikulang Tammy and the Bachelor katambal si Leslie Nielsen kung saan ang awit naman niyang “Tammy” ay umabot sa Number 1 sa Billboard pop chart sa loob ng limang linggo. Ito ang naging best-selling single ng isang babaeng mang-aawit noong 1957.

1900 – The Liceo de Manila, the first institute of higher learning in Manila with a completely Filipino faculty, opened.
1944 – The United States Congress passed Joint Resolution No. 83 and 93. The former gave the U.S. the right to retain military (naval and air) bases in the Philippines while the latter authorized the U.S. president to proclaimed the independence of the Philippines on July 4, 1945.
2011 – The Philippine National Railways reopened the “Bicol Express” rail service from the Tutuban station to naga City.

          Alam niyo ba na nanindigan ang Hollywood celebrity, actress at sex symbol na si Raquel Welch (ipinanganak sa pangalang Jo Raquel Tejada) na siya ay birhen pa nang unang siyang mag-asawa? Ito ay noong 1959, sa kaniyang agent at publicist na si James Welch. Nagdiborsyo sila noong 1964, subalit pinanatili niya ang paggamit ng apelyidong Welch. Mula noon nagkaroon na siya ng tatlo pang asawa.
          Alam niyo rin ba na naganap ang kauna-unahang maalab na paghahalikan (torrid kissing) sa pagitan ng isang puting babae at itim na lalaki sa Hollywood sa katauhan ni Welch at ng professional football star na naging artista na si Jim Brown, sa pelikulang 100 Rifles (1969).
          Noong 1982, si Welch sana ang magiging bida sa film adaptation ng nobela ni John Steibeck na Cannery Row, subalit tinanggal siya at pinalitan ni Debra Winger. Ang dahilan: sa edad noon ni Welch na 42-anyos ay matanda na raw siya upang gampanan ang pangunahing papel sa pelikula. Nagdemanda si Welch at matagumpay na nakakuha ng 10.8-million-dollar settlement.

          Ang Tagalog Illustrated Stories ay ang dating Tagalog Klasiks. Nagbagong mukha ito sa mga unang taon ng ika-21 siglo. Sa unti-unting pagkawala ng babasahing pangmasa na “komiks,” tanging iilan sa mga inilalathala ng Atlas Publications ang nalabi sa sirkulasyon. Sa di mawaring dahilan, ang katawagang “komiks” o “klasiks” ay pinalitan ng “illustrated stories.” Ang Espesyal Komiks ay naging Espesyal Illustrated Stories, ang Hiwaga Komiks ay naging Hiwaga Illustrated Stories, atbp. Tumagal lamang ang mga ito hanggang taong 2006. Sa huling dalawang taon, hindi na nilalagyan ng petsa ang mga inililimbag na “komiks” na taliwas sa nakaugalian. Dito lalong nawalan ng halaga ang mga komiks. Ito ay dahil sa panuntunang (ng mga collectors) na ang nakatatak na petsa, maliban sa nilalaman, ang nagbibigay halaga sa mga babasahing ito sa paglipas ng panahon. Ang Pilipino Komiks naman na naging Pilipino Illustrated Stories, nang lumaon, ay nagkaroon na lamang ng mga “specialized issues” na naglalaman ng mga “illustrated” information tungkol sa mga napapanahong mga bagay o pangyayari.

1987 – Philippine Airlines Flight 206 crashed onto the fog-covered slopes of Mount Ugu, a 2,086-meter high mountain between Itogon, Benguet and Kayapa, Nueva Vizcaya, killing all its crew and passengers.

          Nang magbitiw si Trygve Lie (1896-1968) bilang unang officially recognized Secretary-General ng United Nations noong November 10, 1952, inirekomenda ng United Nations Security Council ang Swedish political economist at Foreign Affairs Secretary na si Dag Hjalmar Agne Carl Hammarskjold (1905-1961) bilang kaniyang kapalit. Nagsimula siyang manungkulan bilang U.N. Secretary-General noong April 1953. Naihalal siyang muli noong 1957 subalit hindi niya natapos ang kaniyang ikalawang termino nang masawi siya sa pagbagsak ng sinasakyang eroplano sa Northern Rhodesia (Zambia ngayon) noong September 18, 1961. Tinawag siya ni President John F. Kennedy na "greatest stateman of our century."
          Noong 1955, bumisita siya sa People’s Republic of China at matagumpay na nakipagnegosasyon sa pagpapalaya ng 15 pilotong Amerikano na nabihag sa kasagsagan ng Korean War.

1869 – Carlos de la Torre became governor-general of the Philippines. He introduced the ideas of liberalism to the Filipinos.
1988 – The Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program took effect. The program despite much publicity, however, did very little to emancipate the Filipino farmers from the bondage of the soil.
